"You might also be interested to know about the publication of a new
innovative quarterly -- Samurai History Journal (available in both
electronic and printed editions). Samurai History Journal, edited by
Romulus Hillsborough, will include articles written by leading history
writers and novelists in Japan. It is the only magazine in English
focusing on the history and culture of the great men of the Meiji
Restoration (1853-1868: the last fifteen years of the samurai era).
Information about Samurai History Journal is available at

snail mail Single issues are $25 and $30 respectively.

Yeah, but for a scholarly journal that's CHEAP!! (The downside of working in a university research library was getting to see the price tags publishers are sticking it to the universities for...). Of all the journals I want access to, this one is actually affordable for me (once I'm getting paid again, that is... :-D ). It may be a couple of months down the road, but I'll be subscribing. If no one else subscribes to it, I'll let you know what's available in the issues.

Re: [SHQ] Samurai History Journal & the link

by bsher213

As much as I complain I'll probably cave and go for a subscription too
within the next month or two on the off-chance I might miss some detail
important to me for the "great novel in progress".

Heck If I hadn't had to spend three hundred bucks for the cats and their
bizarre food allergy I might have clicked that subscribe button already.

About the link---way to go Tiffany!!!!!! It would be fantastic if get
some scholarly types onboard to share their knowledge.
