Check out the book MIYAMOTO MUSASHI: HIS LIFE AND WRITINGS by Tokitsu Kenji. An English translation is available from Amazon.com. THe book researches Miyamoto Musashi and attempts to separate history from a lot of the mythology that has developed around this man. Also his writings are available in English translation as well as with commentary.
