I am trying to get an accurate translation of the above passage. The
part I cannot understand is the role that Oda Nobunaga played in this
event.

I am trying to figure out exactly what happened to Fujii Kogen... I
know the Yamana ruled Kannabe Castle... so what happened? Why did
Fujii Kogen assault it? When he assaulted it, the Sugihara ruled it.
What happened to the Yamana ?

Steven-

I can't get a good copy using Unicode, Shift-JIS, or
EUC. What encoding are you using for this? Shift-JIS
seems the best, but it still has random characters not
appearing.

That is classical Japanese... But I try.

Fujii Kougen asked Nobunaga for support.
Then Nobunaga sent 200 samurai and other 80 to Bingo-no-kuni.
About 10000 locals also rioted into the castle.
The Samurai who guarded the castle were only 30.
They had to give up the castle.

Hi, I guess you better check the background of these people.

This battle was basicaly Mouri vs Amago and Yamana was Amago side.
Yamana family had been the "daimyo" there and FujiiKogen was the top
of "karo" at the YamanaUzimasa time.

But Mouri army (Comander:Ohuchi) assaulted kanabe castle. Then Mouri
put SugiharaShigetane as the daimyo.

Since YamanaUzimasa was turn down, FujiiKogen became a ronin kept
his "CHU-GI" for Yamana, had been aimed for turndown
SugiharaShigemori.

FujiiKogen, once assaulted Kannabe Castle at June 18th, but it was
finished at August 3rd.

FujiiKogen killed himself with a sword at Asaguchi-gun, Oshima.
