Styles Of Kendo

by neo_fiasco13

What are the different styles in kendo? Is the hitten-mitsurugi ryu
or the ama-kokiro ryu no hiromeki from Rurouni Kenshin can be
considered two of those styles? Is it true that only the samurai
owner can handle his own sword and others are not permitted to touch
it? Arigato!

Its supposed that the sword is the soul of the samurai, and nobody but him can touch his sword...

It's a cartoon-anime. And please, everyone keep this
in mind before you start thinking of it as historical
facts!!!!

It may be an Anime, but it is a historical fiction. The OAV Samurai X is
quite factual, but the series of Kenshin is more towards the speculative
fiction side. Please keep that in mind before dismissing what is said in it.

It is a very good anime, but it's still anime. Too
many times on this board we hear people asking or
talking about things that are FICTION like it's real.
People have idealized visions of samurai and
comic-book perceptions of ninja. If people read more
scholarly works on the subjects a lot of these
misconceptions would be avoided. Starting with the
books by Anthony Bryant and Stephen Turnbull would
help, especially as they are easy reads.

I don't mean to put down Samurai X or anime--I know
many people are fans, and I quite like Samurai X. I
think it is extremely well done. But even Kurosawa has
historical flaws (i.e. the Nagashino scene in
Kagemusha).
