This is the tecnic that the shinsen Gumi used.

The material is interesting since the historical point of view. Unfortunatelly I have not more info about Shinsen Gumi, just the reference in Rurouni Kenshin :)

There's an anime "Toshizo Hijikata, shiru no kiseki", actually it's about Hijikata Toshizo but it tells about Shinsengumi too. It's in Japanese - no English subtitles. You can find it in www.yesasia.com or www.toshizohijikata.com
