Hello Carlos,
Good sites on Budo and Bujutsu are numerous..These I would suggest are the
best that I have found so far..www.koryu.com ; An excellent site concerned
with the traditional Koryu arts of Japan (Pre 1864 schools), www.e-budo.com ;
another excellent site where you can post about pretty much anything and get
a variety of good and bad answers from all types of people..THE best
discussion site out there at the moment.
Also you could look at www.aikiweb.com for information regarding a modern
Budo form of Aikido..Informative and comprehensive with good links pages and
www.katorishintoryu.com ; A site set up by a student of the oldest Japanese
Bujutsu Ryu the Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu...Very good site overall..
The links that you will find from these are enough to get you going and give
you a good idea of what is out there..
Regarding your question "What is Budo?" ..Budo literally means "Martial
ways" and is used in Japan to designate the arts that were used for fighting
both with weapons and unarmed during Japanese history...In the west the term
Budo generally means specifically those arts that use higher spiritual goals
for the self through training...Arts such as Iaido, Judo, Aikido etc are all
considered to be Budo forms while the older Koryu forms that focus on the use
of battlefield techniques and practicality of techniques rather than
'spirituality' are refered to as the 'Bujutsu' or "Martial techniques"
instead..
A good series of books that will let you understand this complex issue are
the three books written by Donn F. Draeger..'Classical Bujutsu', 'Classical
Budo', and 'Modern Budo and Bujutsu'...They can explain the issue with far
more accuracy than I can here..It is VERY complex and people will be unlikely
to agree easily on exact definitions...
Hope that this starts to help you though..
Abayo..
