RE: [samuraihistory] Bakufu

by Haynes, A (Angus)

I'd recommend William Wayne Farris' book "Heavenly Warriors" for
information on the formation of the Kamakura Bakufu. For the Ashikaga
Bakufu I'd recommend Sansom's "A History of Japan: 1334-1615".

I haven't read a lot on the Tokugawa Bakufu, but Sansom's "A History of
Japan: 1615-1867" probably covers it nicely, as well.

All of these books should be relatively easy to track down, and all are
listed on Amazon.com

HTH,

Angus

"Politics in the Tokugawa Bakufu" by Conrad Totman covers the subject admirably. You might find a copy in the local library. I was pleasantly surprised to find the one I used in Fred Notehelfer's class at UCLA is now worth $50!!!!
