There has been a running discussion on this for about
a week know. Please go back and read those posts.

Thanks

Think of them as sort of variations on "he committed suicide" and "he
blew his brains out.," or "they hanged him" vs. "they strung him up."
There's more to it, but that's an easy way to grok the basic difference.

I ain't your "tomo". It isn't a matter of not knowing,
it's a matter of a. not wanting to retype everything
everyone just said, and b. annoyance that you didn't
pay attention the first time.

It would be one thing if you asked 6 months after the
fact--these emails are being sent left and right about
seppuku, but you're not reading a darn one of them,
apparently.

Akechi Mitsuhide's bio on the Samurai Archives site is
here:

http://www.samurai-archives.com/mitsuhide.html

It also mentions his brother, Hidemitsu. Samanosuke
was a title held by Hidemitsu.

He's a pretty tragic figure--I'm fascinated by him.
Any specific questions, feel free to ask.

Nate

I heard the name Samonosuke Akechi in a famous PS2 game, Onimusha and Mitsuhide Akechi is the Oda retainer and destroyer of Nobunaga.

Thanks a lot Nate. Did Hidemitsu fight at the battle of Yamazaki or Honnoji temple?

Thanks again

Jonn

No problem--I guess I should clarify, when I said "I'm
fascinated by him", I meant Mitsuhide, not Samanosuke.
Samanosuke is really nothing more than a footnote in
history, video games aside, while Mitsuhide single
handedly changed the course of Japanese (and hence
world) history. Imagine a Japan united under Nobunaga,
no sakoku, Jesuits free to preach...

Anyways, I've heard conflicting things. My
recollection is that Samanosuke was holding
Sakamoto-jo during the battle of Yamazaki, after
participating in the sack of Azuchi. The bio states he
was at Sakamoto when Mitsuhide was trying to escape
after Yamazaki, and I trust FW Seal's research.

I just did a google search in both English and
Japanese, and 96% of what I find is related to the
Onimusha game. 2% of the remainder is related to other
games, like Taiko-ki. What in the hell possessed them
to use some nobody like this guy? Other than he's got
a famous painting of him, you barely even get a
mention of him even in relation to sources on his
cousin/brother/uncle Mitsuhide (even on the
relationship there is confusion!). Mitsuharu is much
more prominent. The only other story I've heard about
him is that he hid under some dead bodies when he was
defeated, in order to stay alive to attack the
opposing general, but this may have been someone else.
