Hello,

I did some searching around and could not find the exact meaning of "seven troubles and eight pains" but, I can tell you what he meant. That is part of a buddhist prayer inviting the gods to put the problems or suffering of the amako family on him. He said this as a loyal retainer vowing to help his lords family.

In buddhism they often list things in groups for easy memorization. Such as the eightfold path or the 4 noble truths. Perhaps these are part of a list, but I could not find these lists in the short search I did. Sorry

happy new year to you too.. I do not know much but it sounds rather tied to
chinaish, in china the tai chi martial, the pa qua and the lao ba jann,
arts founds themselves on the theories that talks about 8 doors...
(basically 8 weak points in the defenses of the enemy and how to use them)
and the 8 pieces of silk (how to prevent the 8 doors) maybe it has
something related to that?
7 fold troubles tho sounds the name of a legendary sword to me.
