Ouch.

It's bad enough when Westerners make bogus Japanese armour that looks like
nothing the Japanese did; it's worse when a Japanese person does it.

I think you take this waay too serious. He´s like one of these costume play
guys. No harm in making yourself a nice toy.

Making a "toy" is one thing, if one has no pretentions
on it being a true re-creation. If you're making a
realistic one and it looks like that, then you've got
issues.

Konban wa, tomodachi,
Yer darn right Ouch! Did you read the text? The poor dog had mange and
fleas so bad they positively HAD to put this collar on him! Yikes!!!
And to make matters worse, LucasFilms Ltd. is giving thought to legal
action because Darth Vader's pre-production helmet ideas seem to have
been lifted!

:-)

I didn´t read the whole page. Does he want to be taken serious as an
re-enactor ? Otherwise it´s just harmless and nothing to worry about...

And then really of no interest to most of the members
of this board. Not to sound snotty, but I don't go
around looking at plastic toy samurai swords--I'd
prefer to see the real thing.

Yeah, he is dead serious.
He just watched "Za Rasuto Samurai," went to the local bookstore to
check out Bushido and Hagakure, and now HE IS A SAMURAI. So you guys
better stop writing bad things about him, or either he will gang up
with the SAMURAI from The Sun, and will chop you in pieces with his
plastic katana (coming soon...)

Re: selfmade kabuto

I think it would have turned out much better if he put in a little
more effort. What was with that single peice Shikoro? I was
completely lost with the placement of the rivets on the hachi. No
attempt to even "draw" plates on the bowl. At least try to paint it
to look like something of the period.

I had considered making something similar but out of a military issue
kevlar helmet. It was roughly the right shape but it would have
taken too much modification. Plus the kevlar helmets ain't cheap.

Even my son thinks the helmet looks lame. He's only three and
believes the helmet is all wrong for Bob the Builder.
