English translations of monogatari

Does anyone know where I can find english translations
of Japanese war manuals/stories? I know I read
somewhere that monotagari are like stories or accounts
written of certain battles, and I've even read a story
from the Konjaku (I think that's how it's spelled)
mongatari about a Taira vs. Minamoto battle ending
with the leaders of the two armies dueling and finally
agreeing to withdraw both their armies before many, or
possibly any, casualties had been registered.

I believe the story you're looking for is the Tale of the Heike. Try
the local university library. That's where I got the copy of it that I
borrowed.

There have been quite a few translations of gunkimono war tales and such.
Nothing I know of in the way of a manual(?)
