Shimada Kai

by kitsuno

I just got Hillsborough's Shinsengumi book (and still feel somewhat
violated for paying $30 for a 200 page book) and I notice on page 33
it says that Shimada Kai studied Shinkeito Ryu in Edo, but everywhere
else indicates Shingyoto Ryu- was this just a mistake, or is there
more to it?

As an aside, I found "propensity to kill" 4 times while literally just
flipping to random pages. I would consider that an error on the part
of the editor. A somewhat unforgivable one, in fact. Ouch.

I am finding it an interesting read, though, I don't mind the writing
style.

He's misreading the "gyo" of "Shingyoto" as "kei" (which is its alternate
reading). This isn't an issue of alternate naming, it's an issue of
Hillsborough not knowing how to read it properly.

"I am the bone of my sword.
Steel is my body, and fire is my blood.
I have created over a thousand blades.
Unknown to Death.
Nor known to Life.
Have withstood pain to create many weapons.
Yet, those hands will never hold anyting.
So as I pray, unlimited blade works."
