Were samurais polygamous?

by nonojnet

Hello everybody. I'm reader of this formum many time ago and I never
saw any coment about polygamy. I'm confuse because I've read opposites
arguments in different fonts. Can anyone solve my doubt and
contributes with any related bibliography?

Thanks.

(Sorry by my english)

A Samurai only had one "real" wife - the rest (if there were any) were
just concubines. So it depends on your personal definition of the word
"polygamy". If your definition only includes multiple wives, than in
that strict sense they were not polygamists.
