"Musashi" (c. 1981) by Eiji Yoshikawa - published by Harper &
Row/Kodansha Int'l;
"Ryoma - Life of a Rennaissance Samurai" (c. 1999) by Romulus
Hillsborough - published by Ridgeback Press.
Two books to get you started on Samurai history, life, etc.
Mushashi time period is prior to the golden age of samurai and Ryoma
is just before the samurai became all but obsolete.
