I would also like to have any information on the Takeda clan as well. My wife's mother is a Takeda, who has told me they are related direcly back to Takeda Shingen. Are there any ways to trace geneology in Japan?

Hi

chances are - impossible

unless Daito Ryu comes under that choice.

You would have to fnd out if any of the Takeda
recieved menkyo in any ryu then see if it still
exists. Some times arts some daimyo studied are
recorded.

thanks for your feed back. thte only information that i have been able to obtain about the takeda clan arts is that their where about 4 arts being practiced or used by the takeda clan these where kogen itto-ryu,daito-ryu aikijujutsu,koshu-ryu gunpo(military strategy),and takeda ryu kyu bajutsu (mounted archery). now i got this information from a book but what i would like to do is go past word of mouth so to speak and get into actual facts and documentation. i don't know if this is possible but it has to be written somewhere. the question is where do i start?

Re: [samuraihistory] the kai takeda

Hi

the problem with Daito Ryu is there is little proof
that it really existed prior to Takeda Sokaku and i
think it was supposed to be called yamato ryu then, if
in fact it did exist then.

Unfortunately Daito ryu does fall into a group of ryu
that have claims to old histories but can not prove
it.
