Just joined

by d_ollerenshaw

Hi there,

I have just joined and am looking forward to some intersting
discussions on here. I have been interested in Japan and the Samurai
from a yong age. More recently, I have joined an Iaido dojo and
starting to learn the art.

Hi.

I also train in Iaijutsu, Eishin Ryu style. Under
Patricia Gallo sensei in Costa Rica.
I will be taken my first exam in september or
october, I hope.
What´s your style ???
Any doubt or comment you have, please let me know.
I will be glad to help you and learn from you.

Around 22 days ago, we have a visit from a guy who
study Araki ryu Iaijutsu. And although his style is
very different, it was quite nice to see him showing
us his kata. It is must ceremonious than our style.

Bye know, but let´s be in touch...

Iaido, eh? That really works out your legs. I used to train in traditional Shotokan karate where the stances are very low. Your legs will become like steel and look like you stole them off of Lance Armstrong.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, iaido really gives your legs a good working
out! It is good all round exercise as well because you are using your back
muscels as well as your arms to hold the sword

Hey that's great, you're studying iaijutsu (is that the same as
iaido?). Anyhow, it's drawing the sword, making your movement and then
replacing the sword in the scabbard, yes? Shintaro Katsu and
Tomisaburo Wakayama were experts in this style. Have you seen any of
their movies? Read my book if you want to learn more.

Hi,

Well at the moment I am just covering Seitei and have done a little
Musoshinden ryu. I haven't graded as yet as have had a long break
since I started and am just getting back into it again.

hi.

I have a book writen by a spaniard about muso shinden
ryu ( Jose Santos Nalda ) very interesting and
explicative. It covers chuden kata and all Setei iai
kata. But what I like the must are the excercises to
develop your 5 senses...
And yes, Iaijutsu help you develop your legs and arms
!!! About arms, I am training with a Practical
katana without edge ( from Hanwei, Paul Chen ). It
weights around 4 pounds !!! Try to imagine me
holding a Nuki Tsuke when my Sensei starts explaining
something !!!

Last tuesday I change swords with a partner just to
see if I can make the shinogi sound in a vertical cut.

It weights just 1.2 pounds !!!

bye...

Hello from Baghdad...
I study Muso-Jikiden-Eishen-Ryu Iaido as well... Under John Ray Sensei in
Denton, Tx. Iaijutsu and Iaido obviously have the same roots, but are
different just like Judo and Jujutsu are different. It is an awesome art to
study, especially if given in the tradional atmosphere. Just my two cents
worth..

Hi,

I can't find anywhere in the UK training in Iaijutsu, it was hard
enough to find a good iai dojo! It's a shame that Iai isn't very well
known as there are so many benefits to be learnt.

Hi.
What Rob says is very true : Iaido is not the same as
Iaijutsu.

The caracther "do" stands for the "the path" or "the
way", meaning a way to conquer your ego and emotions.
Then the fight is with yourself.
Beides, "jutsu" is the real martial art. Here you will
learn real fighting techniques, meaning it is must
focus in fighting.

But been your art a "do" or "jutsu", as a martial art
practitioner you need to remernber always that a sword
is a weapon, made with the only proposit to kill
people. Understandig this, is vital if you want to
succed in your practice.

Bye

I really didn't know that. It is very true though, as Iaido seems to
be all about the path you take and the obstacles you overcome in the
art and also within everyday life.

Hi dave

If you want to train in Japanese Swordsmanship you may want to
look
into Shinkendo. I have been in Shinkendo For 10+ years and and teach
it
in Arizona. I have found it a good way to work both mind & body.I
checked and there are 3 Dojos in the UK For more information goto.

Good luck

Hi
If your lookking for the Uk guys I have had dealings
with Darren Whyley. I sold him katana last year.

Very nice guy, very open and I htink you will do well
if you get the chance to train with him, He doesnt
speak highly of his own training which can in many
ways be a good thing, theres n need to train with a
sensei who has nothing but ego.
