I guess the Elisonian's article on the Cambridge History of Japan vol.4
or Turnbull's "Samurai Invasion" should have the most information on
this topic, but I am not sure they have detailed numbers. And remember
that Turnbull is seen by many as a amateurish historian.

You can check the group's files. I've posted a copy of my bibliography
for the Japanese Invasion of Korea there. So far, I haven't found an OB for
the Japanese in Korea. The closest I've found is an article that says that the
initial Japanese force nubmered around 200,000 men (seems high to me).

If you find a breakdown of the Japanese forces, please let me know.

The Ming Celestial Army that pushed down the Japanese was -according to
sources- 300,000. Again, this might seem a bit exaggerate, but Chinese
armies were huge. It is an accepted theory that the military effort in
Korea was one of the reason for the upcoming fall of the Ming...
However, let's keep it between us, before the Chinese ask Koizumi to
pay for that... ;o)

Re: [samuraihistory] invasion of korea in 1592

Thanks for posting the information. I tried to access the website but it
froze my computer.

Do you have any information on the composition of the forces? I'd love to
find out the ratio between cavalry and infantry. I'd also like to find a
breakdown for the infantry (eg. how many Samurai, how many Ashigaru, if any of the
Ashigaru had arquebusses, or if they were all armed with bows, etc.).

Thanks in advance.

Dear group:
In the following link, you can find an image of book,
"A Lecuture on a History of the Japanese Empire Sea
Power" and a picture of an ironclad ship in the book,
which the Japanese Navy built under a direct order of
Toyotomi Hideyoshi after numerous loss of the Japanese
naval ships from encounters with the Korean ironclad
ship, Turtle ship during the Imjin war.
It is the first time that I saw this, too.
