I'd assume he meant sources in Japanese, since he
asked for primary sources. Not too many sources in
English from the Sengoku Jidai. Though I must admit
I'm confused by his use of the term "Rules of
Engagement". That means something to me as an army
officer that wouldn't have affected the samurai.
Sengoku ROE: You see the enemy, go take his head! What
the hell are you standing here for???
Modern ROE: You can fire back if fired upon, but only
if you can clearly identify the enemy, and if he's not
hiding behind a church/mosque/important cultural site,
or using civilians as a shield, and you've got to use
the minimum force necessary to protect yourself, US
personnel, equipment, civilians, rare waterfowl, and
coral reefs. Spitballs are the recommended form of
non-deadly projectile.
I'd assume
