Hmmm... I've never really thought about it. But now that you mention it, I've noticed it too. I'm not quite sure myself, but I'll ask around. I've got a friend who's an expert on the Samurai and Kenjitsu and such, who got me into it in the first place. I'll ask him...

Greetings All,
Can anyone tell me the significance of the commonly seen heraldic device
of a narrow band surmounted by a broad band, as seen upon many hata,
nobori, tate etc. I've seen it on contemporary illustrations used by
both sides in a battle. Is it a religious or tactical motif or what?
Yours
Dean
