Richard:

The links, as you posted them, didn't work. I tried
this:

http://www.image-hosting.net/images/messageboard/retalt/jingasa%201.jpg

Is this the same jingasa you mean? If so, yes, it's
jingasa. What other information might you be looking
for?

Re: [samuraihistory] Jingasa ?????

sorry all, a typo, try this.

Thanks Nate, I was wondering if there were different types of Jinsaga or
they are all just basically Jinsaga. If this style was typical of an era
?, if there could be any judgment of age ? etc., just general information.

Cheers

Rich

Rich--

Not one of thos links worked. Did you try the link I
posted, and is that the one you are looking for?
There's something messed up with the code.

As far as differences in Jingasa, I'm not too sure--I
believe that there were varying style of jingasa, but
don't know if there was any differences between
regions or eras. I'll see what I can dig up.

Re: [samuraihistory] Jingasa ?????

by ltdomer98

Rich-

YAY! SUCCESS!

Yes, that's a jingasa. As far as stylistic dating
goes, I'm not entirely sure. Most of the sengoku era
jingasa I've seen in illustrations are a little
flatter, and are made of iron, as you would expect of
military headgear. I believe during this time you had
two types: iron jingasa the Ashigaru used as headgear,
and the straw/thatch versions used by the peasantry,
monks, women, etc. During the Edo period is when I
believe you saw a switch to your average samurai
wearing them as headgear, and you see the switch to
lacquered versions.

Of course, I really have no idea. Still looking
though.
