Screen readers

by msr_iaidoka

Mr. Wayland,

Do you use JAWS as your screen reading program?

Peace,

Matt

Re: [samuraihistory] Screen readers

by deanwayland

Hi Matt,

Yes that's the puppy, I use JAWS 4.5 Pro to "read out" the screen, along
with Zoomtext 7.1 Level 1 (Magnification only) to split the screen, with
the bottom half at x16 on a 19" monitor.

I'm in a little dispute with my supplier at the moment, who I believe I
had an upgrade contract with, which they seem to have lost all record
of, trouble is I can't find my paper work:-(.

I'm trying to acquire version 5.0 of JAWS and the 8.1 version of
Zoomtext, which I hope will go some way to solving the problems, well
maybe:-)

Anyway, any suggestions?

Yours

Dean

Mr. Wayland,

I wish I had some suggestions. Unfortunatly the only experience I have
with JAWS is from my ex-girlfriend. She is totally blind and could use that
computer better than most seasoned pros. Of course the mouse was never used
so I leared a LOT of keyboard commands just by watching her. It was my
relationship with her that helped me to decide what I want to do with my
life.
Anyhow, enough rambling. Best of luck with getting your upgrades.

Peace,

Matt

Screen readers plus OT question

by deanwayland

Hi Matt,

Cheers for the supportive noises:-) Not having any joy yet, but hay ho,
these things have a way of working themselves out in the end, especially
if one kicks hard enough!

Anyway, two things:

1, to my friends and to those who have not yet found themselves
classified as my enemies, I am "Dean", I leave "Mr Wayland" to either my
afore mentioned "enemies", who are few:-) And to those dreadfully formal
communications with folks that I am not yet on personal terms with, in
Japan, and....

2. Come on Matt, you can't leave us all dangling upon a narrative hook,
so what did you decide to do with your life? No need to panic, voluntary
rambling answers only required:-)

Yours

Dean

RE: Screen readers plus OT question

by msr_iaidoka

Dean,

Sorry about the "Mr." thing, force of habit. :-)
My life plan to is to work with museums to help them adapt their exhibits
to the blind. I am currently in grad school working for my Masters in
Public History (museum methodology and such). My secondary goal is to start
teaching martial arts to the disabled. Other than that, I am just a normal
23 year old kid. :-)

Peace,

Matt

Hi Matt,

No problem, me, I'm at the other end of the age thing, well 49, almost
blind, and have been teaching sword play for nigh on 23 years, which I
got in to by mistake and have never regretted it:-) My other half Mary
is also disabled, with a spinal injury, but she's dam good with a sword,
never should have taught her everything I know....

Good luck with your life plans, and remember to make a difference, and
then just enjoy the ride!

Yours

Dean
