Samurai Saturdays on IFC

Roll out of bed and into feudal Japan every Saturday morning with
IFC's Samurai Saturdays. Each week we present a classic samurai film
from the masters of Japanese cinema.

SWORD OF DOOM
Ryunosuke Tsukue (Tatsuya Nakadai) is a bloodthirsty, amoral young
fighter who has no qualms about murdering the guilty or innocent. He
kills a man in an exhibition match at his fencing school and is
pursued by the slain warrior's brother.

SAMURAI REBELLION
Toshiro Mifune plays Isaburo, a samurai whose loyalty to the feudal
system falters when his lord demands that Isaburo's son Yogoro give
up his bride, a woman who had originally been the lord's mistress.

MIYAMOTO MUSASHI
The first of director Hiroshi Inagakifs Samurai trilogy gives us
the origins of legendary swordsman Musashi Miyamoto (Toshiro
Mifune). A hotheaded orphan falsely accused of a crime, Miyamoto is
rescued by a monk who sets him on the path of the samurai.

DUEL AT ICHJOJI TEMPLE
Now a famous fighter, Miyamoto returns to Kyoto to challenge the
leader of the eminent swordfighting school and further his
reputation. But while his skills with a sword have progressed,
Miyamoto's character is far less admirable.

GANRYU
Miyamoto gives up fighting to live as a humble farmer in the
outskirts of a small village. But the life of a samurai isnft easy
to leave behind, and after saving the village from bandits Miyamoto
must face his greatest opponent, the master swordsman Sasaki Kojiro.

The Life of Masseur Ichi
The first of the legendary Zatoichi movies introduces Shintaro Katsu
as the blind masseur/swordsman and reluctant hero who, while trying
to practice his trade as a masseur, finds himself involved in a gang
war.

The Return of Masseur Ichi
Zatoichi tries to resume a peaceful life, but when he discovers that
that the feudal lord employing him is mentally deranged, the lord's
samurais try to kill him to protect the secret and themselves.

Masseur Ichi Enters Again
Zatoichi returns to his home village and Yajuro Banno, his mentor.
He finds himself falling in love with Banno's sister, but his
teacher derides his proposal, more interested in enlisting
Zatoichi's help in a kidnapping scheme.

Masseur Ichi, The Fugitive
When a defenseless woman is killed by an assassin sent after
Zatoichi, the blind swordsman's rage is such that he goes after the
every member of the gang that hired the man until he can finally
face him in the ultimate duel.
