Sengoku and Sekigahara

by schhy84

Hi,

I was wondering if you guys could give me some information. I am
about to give a speech on the Sengoku Period and the Battle of
Sekigahara for my Speech class. One of my requirements is getting
testimony from experts. These experts could be peers or
professionals. When they mean peer experts, it means people who done
or are doing research about finding out information on a certain
topic.

I only have three questions. Although some of these questions might
sound ridiculous, MY audience know nothing about Sengoku Period and
Sekigahara. So I don't want to confuse the hell out of them. Know
what I mean.

Anyways....
(In the e-mail, Could you put your name, and how long you have been
researching or have been interested in this topic. It is to show
that I am giving you credit about your knowledge)

1) The Sengoku Period was known as the age of Warring States. Why
is it one of the more fascinating part of Japan's history?

2) Why was the Battle of Sekigahara such a decisive battle? Why not
the other battles that occurred before it?

3) Why was there a clash between Toyotomi and Tokugawa? Wasn't
Tokugawa under the rule of Toyotomi?

That's all the questions I have. Please send the answers to
schhy84@... or schhy84@..., or both). I ask this, b/c
my teacher wants a copy of it. Don't worry, I will not disclose any
information to the world. This is STRICTLY for school purposes.
Thanks in advance

Chhy

Clan Date History (on the right list)

by dateyukiie

Konnichi wa tomodachi - O genki desuka...
I have read the studies of the Date Clan that have been available
on-line, and in various tomes by our notable Bryant, England's
Turnbull, and others...
Most start with Date Masamune, and some include his father (vis: the
sponsor group for this list...)
I am curious as to the earlier generations of Date, way up in Mutsu
and Dewa, - where they lived (at least at first...in earlier times...)
Whom they were descended from, the locales they frequented...where
they lived...the towns they fortified...basically the thing that led
up to the great "One-Eyed_Wonder" we have all read about...The clan
cannot live in a vaccuum...so who were their ancestors?
Unfortunately the Japanese "Date" pronunciation also reads like the
often pornagraphic word - "date" so googles don't work so hot...
Whatever help people can add, would be wonderful...

When looking for info like this, always add "-shi" -- ??? -- and you'll get
what you need. E.g.,
http://village.infoweb.ne.jp/~isamun/monarchs/people/japan/date.html

That page is my favorite samurai genealogy resource. It has almost
any clan you can think of.

HELLO!!
I've got a request for you...it's a bit difficult but I hopre you could help me...
I'm looking for the text of a noh piece by Zeami Motokiyo, it's called IZUTSU.
Some of you could give me a web site where I could find this piece of theatre?
I know you would suggest some books but here in italy foreign books are difficult to find and, in particular, too expensive... but if you know some books tell me the same...
Thanks a lot guys!
Daniele

Hello Daniele. I've send your request to a friend of mine, preparing a
thesis about Chushingura in theatre playing. Maybe some help
should arrive.

Re: [samuraihistory] H E L P...

>Daniele,

IZUTZU (translated into English as The Well Cradle - it's the guard around the edge of the well) is included in JAPANESE NO DRAMA translated by Royall Tyler and published by Penguin Classics. It's only 9 pages long so if you can find the book in a library you could photocopy it.

Cheers,

Gillian

Nope, but i've mined a ton of info off of it, so maybe someday I'll
put something like that together in English. All comes down to free
time, of which I have almost none...
