WWII Movie Title

by fredjnsn@hotmail.com

Can anyone tell me the name of the WWII movie that starred Toshiro
Mifune and the guy from the dirty dozen? Can't remember the name,
but it takes place on an island in the pacific, and is quite similar
to 'enemy mine'.

"Hell in the Pacific," with Toshiro Mifune and Lee Marvin.

Originally had a different ending, too, where they start arguing and just
walk away from each other, but the producing studio wanted something more
meaningful about the meaning of war, so they had them both get zapped in a
bombing...

Interesting trivia point: The Japanese character had a name (Captain
Kuroda). Marvin's character was just "The American Pilot."
