I like to know if is true about the generals which comitted seppuku after the
surender of Japan in the court of imperial palace..it is this true? where them
samurai..or not? can somebody
tell me more about this? thank you. Michael.

I'm not aware that any generals actually committed
seppuku INSIDE the imperial palace. I'd like to see
your source for this.

As for were they samurai or not, technically speaking,
no. The samurai class was abolished during the Meiji
Restoration. "Samurai" ceased to exist, legally.

It wasn't in the palace, but, yes, some committed (or tried to, like Tôjô)
suicide, and some committed seppuku (most famously Gen. Anami, secretary of the
army). Of course they weren't samurai, though -- samurai were legilated out of
existence in the 1860s.

Actually some of them scommitted suicide in front of the imperial castle, but I don't know if Tojo was one of those.

Hideki Tojo was judged as a war criminal and sentenced to death

among the people who committed seppuku was admiral onishi

I've always been puzzled by Tojo's suicide's failure: all I know is that he=
was using a
fireweapon (I assume a gun), so, how would he miss? Once you point a gun to=
your
head, you really need to try hard not to hit it.
Anybody has some insight of the story?
