Look at www.crwflags.com as they have a rather good
collection of all the banners carried by the Daimyo of
the Sengoku-jidai .

Where? I went to the site, and could not find them.
Only historical flags were US/European.

Re: question?

Hello
I guess the banner you reffered to is the one with the kanji
characters for"onri edo gongu joudo",which means "hoping to go away
from this mean world and longing to go to the heaven" or so.

the pic number F31 in the following page is that.
http://www.aduchimomoyama.com/s_1nobori.htm

Hope this helps

Re: question?

by holydemon13

Hi there.
I tried to access the crwflags.com site, and it plain, flat out, did not
work. The aduchimomoyama.com site works, but is in Japanese. I think I know
the answer to my first question before I ask it, but I'll ask it anyway: How
did Tokugawa Ieyasu and Toyotomi Hideyoshi get along? Second, one I asked
some time ago is still on my mind: other than both being married at one point
or another to Nobunaga's sister Oichinokata, how did Shibata Katsuie and Asai
Nagamasa get along -- if at all? I ask the two questions because I'm doing
research for a story I started writing.
Thanks y'all for your help.

Later,
Tim

Re: [samuraihistory] Re: question?

by mijalo_kr

Daimyo relations
1. Between Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu were
very strained at best . After the death of Oda
Nobunaga (1582), hideyoshi emerged as the next source
of authority, to the detriment od Shibata Katsuie and
Nobuo (Nobunaga's second son). Nobuo then turned to
Ieyasu for support . Only too willing to attack the
usurper (ie, Hideyoshi) Ieyasu joined Nobuo, and the
alliance led to the innconclusive Komaki Campaign of
May 1584 .
When Hideyoshi orchestrated the invasions of Korea, he
opted to leave the untrustworthy Ieyasu (and Date
Masamune) in Japan, rather than risking their presence
among a potentially-hostile (to the ailing
Hideyoshi!!)army of veteran samurai .
2. It's hard ti imagine Asai Nagamasa and Asai
Nagamasa were anything but enemies;
a. Shibata was a trusted-Oda loyalist, while Asai
supported the Asakura and the loose-Anti-Oda
alliance(rather than Nobunaga, his brother-in-law) in
the campaign that lead to defeat at Anegawa but
victory at Otsu (1570). in this campaign, Shibata
defended Chokoji-jo for Nobunaga against Rokkaku
forces .
b. As a result of the defeat of Nagamasa, Shibata was
given O-ichi and her three daughters by Nagamasa, but
this was the second time she'd been married to
Shibata, who had been forced to give her up (for
Nagamasa) as part of a Asai-Oda peace deal over Mino
province . Not exactly the basis for a wholesome
relationship between to\he two daimyo at the best of
times .
Hope this all helps

Hi there.

I tried to access the crwflags.com site, and it
plain, flat out, did not

work.  The aduchimomoyama.com site works, but is
in Japanese.  I think I know

the answer to my first question before I ask it, but
I'll ask it anyway: How

did Tokugawa Ieyasu and Toyotomi Hideyoshi get
along?  Second, one I asked

some time ago is still on my mind: other than both
being married at one point

or another to Nobunaga's sister Oichinokata, how did
Shibata Katsuie and Asai

Nagamasa get along -- if at all?  I ask the two
questions because I'm doing

research for a story I started writing.

  Thanks y'all for your help.

Later,

Tim

Re: [samuraihistory] Re: question?

by holydemon13

Yes it does!!!!! And immensely. I almost figured on that as Oda Hidenobu
(also known as Samboshi), Nobutada's son, Nobunaga's grand son, and the
rightful heir, was under the care of his uncle, Nobuo, not Toyotomi, who was
married to his (Samboshi's) cousin, Cha-cha (Oichi-no-Kata's daughter by
Asai), and knowing that Shibata was an Oda retainer and that Asai had
supported Asakura at Anegawa.
If my memory serves me correctly, it was the protection of Samboshi that
started the series of events that led -- ultimately -- to Shibata's
disastrous defeat at Shizugatake and his and Oichi-no-Kata's suicide at
Kita-no-Sho. (Of course, the blame for THAT defeat goes to one Sakuma
Morimasa, the general that disobeyed Shibata's orders to stop after his
defeat of Nakagawa Kiyohide. Although I cannot say that Shibata was exactly
himself honourable or without blame, as he was back at Kita-no-Sho and
nowhere NEAR the battle when it occurred.)
Now, when I go back to do the correction and rewriting process, I can
rewrite with that in mind, b/c the story takes place sometime between 1570
and 1573 (I'm not too sure right now, although as events unfold within the
writing, that will most certainly be determined), right during the time
Oichi-no-Kata was married to Asai. Part of the story already written
involves both Tokugawa and Toyotomi. (As the story I am working on is
fiction, Shibata -- who is, alas, one of my favourite figures in Japanese
history -- is, unfortunately, not a living presence or factor, although he
has been mentioned a couple of times so far.)
Your help is much appreciated!!!!! And if I have any more questions (and
I'm sure I will), I will not hesitate to ask them here!!!!! (-:

Thanks a million again!
Tim

Re: [samuraihistory] question?

by ltdomer98

Lord, give us strength.

1. It's ANIME.

Anime: Japanese cartoons. Drawn. Inherently FICTION.
Doesn't matter HOW realistic the artist wants to make
it, it's still ART--not life.

2. What anime are you watching? Most I'm familiar with
(Samurai X, Rurouni Kenshin)take place in the Edo
period. No major wars occured during the Edo period.
Why would you walk around in armor if there weren't
battles to fight? Samurai wore armour when they needed
to, didn't when they didn't.

3. I'm in the Army--I don't walk around all the time
with a helmet and flak vest on, even though that's
what I would wear if I went into combat. Same with
them.

Apply a little common sense, and it all becomes clear.
