History Question

by nkbhvs

I'm researching an historical event(or events?) about farmers
rebelling against their Samurai masters using their farm tools as
weapons. Am I correct that it was the Shimabara rebellion? If not,
please help me find the right event.

I need specific names and dates and locations. Any info or links or
book recommendations would be great.

Thank you,
Doug C.

There were quite a few small scale rebellions during the Edo period mostly
during poor harvest periods. I don't recall what weapons they used.
Shimabara's revolt involved ronin as well as peasants. Some books that might
help 'Peasant protests and uprisings in Tokugawa Japan' Stephan Vlastos,
'Peasant Protest in Japan' Herbert Bix. Both books focus on the social
conditions of the revolts, not on the military aspects.
