New to the group

by pilgrimscribe

Hello All,
I am not exactly a new member, but it's been about 8 years since I was a part of your community. I return in need of as much historical assistance y'all can provide.
I am a writer and back then I had written a story that took place in 1866, the end of the Meiji restoration. But now I find myself returning to this story and re-writing it with a beginning in 1863-64. It is on its way to being my creative writing thesis and as such I want to capture more of this amazing and very interesting time.
I want more of a focus on those who were involved, mostly from Satsuma and Choshu. Kido Koin and Kawakami Gensai being two of the supporting characters.

I look forward to reading your post and posting my own entries and such

See ya around
Sarah

Hi Sarah - I'm not sure what kind of info you need or what assistance I can provide, but I have a lot of stuff up on Kido Koin/Katsura Kogoro up at http://red-bird.org/meiji2 . (I have recently updated the archive to include some information I picked up from another text I acquired a few years bcak.)

If you have a particular need to understand Choshu - I can also recommend you pick up Thomas Hubers, " The Revolutionary Origins of Modern Japan" which really is just about Choshu - specifically covering Shoin, Kido, Takasugi, Genzui, and other political factions within Choshu.

Hope this helps...
