First of all, many thanks for listing the references.

One that I didn't see in your list (perhaps I missed
it?) and I figure it as being VERY important, is

Yamamura, R. Shinsengumi Shougenroku. PHP.

It is a collection of testimonials given by people who
actually LIVED the Bakumatsu and who witnessed
firsthand the doings and wrongdoings of the
Shinsengumi. Obviously, all the testimonials *are*
biased, but it is a priceless collection of how people
viewed Shinsengumi at the time.

Steel is my body, and fire is my blood.
I have created over a thousand blades.
Unknown to Death.
Nor known to Life.
Have withstood pain to create many weapons.
Yet, those hands will never hold anyting.
So as I pray, unlimited blade works."

"Shinsengumi Shougenroku" is still on my "to-buy" list. I was going to buy it a few months
ago but I decided to get "Shinsengumi Kenkyaku-Den" (also by Yamamura) instead.

I have Shinsengumi Shougenroku and many other Japanese references.
I also have Shinsengumi reference book which you can buy only at Hino-city.
The book was published by the group of people who study local history.
I read Japanese and have easier access to Hino-city (about 20 min from my
house) so if you guys need some reference for your researches, I may be able
to help.
Only problem is that I am not so good at English....

Wow... I definitely could use your help.

By the way, could you please check whether the names are spelt right in the Okita Rintaro
article on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okita_Rintaro) and on the Okita Rintaro
discussion page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Okita_Rintaro)?

Re: One more reference

by secretarytocapt3

Seven, if you visit
http://www.shinsengumihq.com/bibliography2.htm

you will find a listing for Moeyo Ken and it's publication dates as
well as a notation which was there noting that, yes, it is fiction

if you visit
http://www.shinsengumihq.com/ShinsengumiBakumatsuTimeline.htm

you will notice an interesting pattern of the *re-publication of
Nagakura's "Shinsengumi Tenmatsui" in 1971
and Moeyo Ken in 1972

those major works released (or re-released) back to back greatly
impacted the population's view of the Shinsengumi

FICTION IS POWERFUL!
