I don't know if this has been posted yet, but Viz will be releasing volume 1 of Kaze Hikaru next year in January. News here.

Awesome! I've been keeping up with the newest volumes here in Japan...it's
gonna be a GREAT series. The volume I got features Itou, Hanaka-dayuu, the
usual guys (Kondou/Hijikata/Okita), of course, Sei, Matsudaira Katamori, and
a little girl (Oyuki), who, if I'm not mistaken, is Okita's daughter...

As I understand from summaries and the KH mailing list, the little girl,
Yuki, is NOT Okita's daughter. She is the child of Kohana, a geisha
that Okita knows. Yuki's father is a samurai and would not/could not
marry Kohana because of her status. Yuki actually thinks of Okita as
her father as he helps take care of her and her mother.

Viz has been doing a good job oh KH so far in Shojo Beat - the first
four chapters were preceded by articles outlining the history of the
Shinsengumi and of Japan during the period; and it even made the cover
of the November issue with an interview with the Watanabe Taeko and a
"get this look" article, which even outlined how to make an
approximation of a traditional women's hairstyle! I can't speak much to
the accuracy of the translation, however, but it seems in line with
other translations I have seen.

The first collected volume should be out around New Years with the first
five chapters, it will retail for $8.99 in the US.

Kaze Hikaru is a wonderfully told story, it's soooo
good with the history that you've really got to hand
it to "Maruko-sensei" (Watanabe Taeko's nickname) for
doing her research. Then again, I have the added
advantage of being Japanese.

And I LOVE Saitou in it too!

I'd have to agree with you-- I haven't been able to spot any glaring
anachronisms as yet. She's really good at what she does, and I hope she
keeps going with it!
