My PC isn't working at all, so I have a VERY limited
time in the Net.

This monument is still there at the Mount Iimori. I
don't know if it's the original one, since I've read
somewhere that the Americans tried (succeeded?) to
destroy it, as it was a fascist symbol.

Either way, it's a marble column from Pompeia with an
eagle on top.

At one side, it's written

"SPQR
Nel segno del littorio
Roma
Madre di Civilita
Con la millenaria colonna
testimone deterna grandezza
tributa onore imperituro
alla memoria de gueroi di Biaccotai

Anno MCMXXVIII VI Era Fascista"

Which means more or less

"Senatus Populusque Romanus
Rome, the Mother of Civilization, with this thousand
year column, witness of eternal grandeur, pays homage
with the imperial symbol to the memory of the warriors
of the Byakkotai

Year 1928 6 of the Fascist Era"

And at the rear side of the column, it's written "Allo
spirito del
Bushido", "To the spirit of Bushido".

There is another monument from 1935, built by the
German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hasso Von Etzdorf.
It's a black plaque with the following inscription:

"Ein Deutscher"
"Den junger Rittern von Aizu"

It means more or less
"A German"
"To the young warriors of Aizu".

If I haven't uploaded yet the pictures, I can try
uploading it, if my PC boots. -_-

"I am the bone of my sword.
Steel is my body, and fire is my blood.
I have created over a thousand blades.
Unknown to Death.
Nor known to Life.
Have withstood pain to create many weapons.
Yet, those hands will never hold anyting.
So as I pray, unlimited blade works."

There is very good explanation about how those Italian and German
monument had arrived at Iimoriyama.
http://homepage3.nifty.com/naitouhougyoku/sub1rome-hi.htm

This one has also English and German page.
http://www.ne.jp/asahi/minako/watanabe/Aizu.htm

Certainly, the Italian monument was offered from Mussolini, but seeing
the date, it's not directly associated with the war propaganda as well
as the German monument.
Reading the history, it was Baden Pawell, the founder of scouting who
introduced the history of Byakkotai to the Europe, and praised them in
the first Jamboree in 1920 and Mussolini was the one who was impressed
by the story.

It seems (in my opinion)it was GHQ who become little bit too nervous for
possibly fascist thing after the WW2.
