Mito School wakizashi guard?

by spiritus_saitou

Anyone here with some sword history background can tell me what this means? Specifically, I'm interested in what is meant by "Mito School" in this case.

"The fittings include: a handle covered in ray skin, gilt bronze mice menuki with wonderful detail, a fuchi signed Kunishige, and a guard from the Mito School, 19th century."

Re: [SHQ] Mito School wakizashi guard?

I'm not too knowledgeable with schools who did the koshirae or the fittings for swords. But if it's similar to lineages for swordsmiths, i'd say Mito was probably the area the tsuba maker was from. However, it could also be the name for the line of artisans from which the tsuba came from.
