Question

by nana_41175

Hello!

I was wondering if someone knows the extent of the Shinsengumi's
responsibilities in policing Kyoto in 1864-1865? Do they also handle
crimes that do not seem to be a threat to the Shogunate, or do they
just limit themselves to matters involving the Shogunate? If not, is
there a separate agency that handles these crimes?

I'd really appreciate any answers. Thanks.

Nana

I may be wrong but I believe that they had jurisdiction over all
criminal activity in t heir patrol zones. Kyoto was broken up into quite
a few patrol districts by group--Shinsengumi, Mimiwarigumi, Shoshidai
etc and each had their "zones". We have a color coded map in the files
section of the main SHQ list (last row bottom of page)
